Dental Implants are a modern version of the traditional bridge work and also offer a permanent solution to the problem of missing teeth. They are a durable, stable and fully functional replacement to your natural teeth. If you have a missing tooth or teeth, you may find that adjacent teeth can begin to change position, drifting forward, and the position of the opposing teeth will also change, causing a collapse of the normal harmony of that side of the mouth. Also when back teeth are missing, you tend to switch the sides you constantly chew on, putting more pressure on those teeth.
Implants are a modern high tech replacement, and they are now the preferred treatment of choice for replacing missing teeth . The treatment involved for dental implants consists of two main parts, which can be broken down as follows:
Fixture: A small titanium fixture is placed in the bone where the root of the missing tooth has been lost. Over the 10-12 week healing time, the fixture fuses to the bone, acting as an anchor for the replacement tooth. This makes the entire structure highly secure and stable.
Restoration: A crown restoration is attached to the fixture above the gum, now you have a brand new tooth, that is as close to the original tooth as is possible.
These two components make up a dental implant and completely replace the missing tooth.
Dental implants are very effective if you have a single missing tooth, multiple teeth or require Full Mouth Rehabilitation.
